Otaru Canal(in Japan)
As a symbol of Otaru, this is a elegant place with street lights and romantic canal. This canal, the width 40m and the depth 2.5m, was built for 9 years from 1914. In the past, small freighters come and go to the storage which is next to the canal, however, the ability of canal was disappeared with the appearance of huge port in Otaru 1950s. At that time, the government was concerned about canal's conservation or not, finally they decided to bury just some part in the aspect of preservation of history. And the remains becomes the best tourists of Otaru based on the harmony with antique mood of old storage and fresh Design shop. In winter, the whole area of Hokkaido becomes a place for festival with the meaning to endure the coldness. Also in Otaru, the city of romance, many events are held such as Sapporo Snow Festival and Snow light Festival in 8 spots in downtown of Otaru.
